Tornado of Souls (Megadeth Cover)

Megadeth happens to be one of my favorite metal groups as they are super tight with excellent riffs, leads and ofcourse DAVE MUSTAINE !!! I love so many of their songs and was wondering which one would be ideal to cover. I picked this mainly coz of the aggression in the vocals, the cool riffs and leads. Used to listen to this a lot back in college. This goes out to Sudeip!
I think most of you will find this hard to digest:-) Its quite heavy and LOUD .. Please bear with me 🙂

Trapped – Indus Creed Cover

During my college days, there were two Indian Rock groups that I totally loved. My most favorite was Colourblind. I remember taking a bus and going all the way to Jamshedpur just to get their debut album. My other favorite group was Indus Creed/Rock Machine. Today for whatever reason, I suddenly remembered this song, and just had to sing it. So here it is 🙂

I have done all the harmonies and vocals in this. Some of the harmony arrangements are different from the original.

THIS IS MY TRIBUTE TO INDUS CREED , one of the greatest rock bands to come out of India!

Ahista Ahista (From the movie Bachna Ae Haseeno)

Smitha Passanha
introduced me to this sing and suggested we cover this. I was hooked to it almost from the start. When I heard the original, one thing was for sure, I needed Sunny‘s expertise as far as mixing goes. He was kind enough to agree to mix it for us and did a terrific job at that. It was a lot of fun working with Smitha on this and I think she did a great job. She did some neat harmonies too. Thanks for suggesting this Smitha and for all your hard work!

Lady (Modjo Cover)

On the theme of dance, here is another one. This one is my Modjo.. a simple yet catchy tune. I’ve been FLU stricken and probably dont sound my usual self. Just felt like singing n so I did.

One More Time (Daft Punk Cover)

This was just a fun experiment. My wife loves this song as its groovy and fun to dance to. I wanted to try the vocoder effect and I’m very happy the way its turned out. Its very different from anything else I have tried so far.

Bheegi Bheegi (From the movie Gangster)

This one goes out to my good friend Smitha Passanha who also happened to introduce me to the song. From what I understand from Smitha, Pritam has ripped this off from some Bengali song. Nevertheless, the arrangement is good, especially the guitarwork. I have introduced some subtle variations here n there. Nothing major though.

For those of you interested in the mixing, I have used a chorus effect with 4 voices for the main chorus (najaane koi…..) Rest of it is the standard stuff.

Hope you all enjoy this one!

The Reason (Hoobastank Cover)

I covered this song based on Neha Sharma’s request, whom I know through Muziboo. This song is beautiful lyrically. From a melody perspective, it has a lot of high’s and low’s, which I really enjoy. For those of you who are familiar with the song, I’ve changed the high parts around a bit since I felt it was a bit too plain in the original. For a line as emotional as “And the reason is you”, I felt it could be expressed better than it was in the original and I have tried to do just that.

The video for this song is quite nice too. Hope all of you enjoy this one!

Careless Whisper (George Michael Cover)

I had covered this a while back, but wanted to redo it as I was not satisfied with the previous version. An old George Michael classic that even non English music listeners are familiar with. For the record, George Michael is one of my idols. I think he has an absolutely delightful voice. Here is the new attempt!

Kangal Irandaal (With Meera Manohar)

Meera suggested this song a while back. All I can say is that I fell in love with it instantly when I heard it and decided to give it a shot. I have always been open to trying different styles of music, but I was very skeptical about this one. There were several factors that made me feel this way including the scale (being too low), the style (semi classical) and the language (me being pathetic with most languages). I dont think I’ve ever been so involved in covering a song and was totally immersed in this song for a period of 4 days or so. I probably drove Meera and Tara nuts in the process, both of whom helped me immensely in getting my part perfected (to the best of my abilities).

Meera has done a great job as always and has added a nice carnatic touch to this. She also came up with some nice backing vocals towards the end giving the song a different feel. I wanna thank her for insisting that I can do this song even when I was about to throw in the towel and for all the help with diction, expressions etc.

Hope you all enjoy this rendition!

Catch the Rainbow (Rainbow Cover)

Rainbow

This is probably one of my top 5 most favorite songs of all time. I used to listen to this on loop endlessly back in college and I’ve waiting almost 10 yrs to do this song. I was never able to find a guitarist to cover this for me (due to the complexity or lack of interest) or find a track (as this is not a popular song).

So you can only imagine my joy in finally being able to sing this. Sung originally by one of my idols, Ronnie James Dio (who later joined Black Sabbath) with guitarwork by Ritchie Blackmore (from Deep Purple), this is a true masterpiece. The vocals in the original are soulful and powerful at the same time in true Dio fashion and the guitarwork is to die for. You will find the range of this song quite unique (starts low and then goes really high)

I have done the harmonies slightly different from the original, but at the same time tried to get the soul element as rendered by Dio. Hope this song makes at least some of you check out Rainbow 🙂 Enjoy!

I also want to take this opportunity to thank Ashish Vaswani (batchmate at BIT and a good friend of mine) for introducing me to this song back in the day!!! Thanks bro!

Lyrics:
When evening falls
She’ll run to me
Like whispered dreams
Your eyes cant see
Soft and warm
She’ll touch my face
A bed of straw
Against the lace

We believed we’d catch the rainbow
Ride the wind to the sun
Sail away on ships of wonder
But life’s not a wheel
With chains made of steel
So bless me come the dawn
Come the dawn
